City needs a new reputation
In May 2011 the Boston Globe ran an op-ed by a then 22-year-old Boston College senior with strong opinions about startups and, somehow, a newspaper willing to print them. That was me. The article was part of a series on making Boston better for entrepreneurs, and my argument fit in a sentence: the city had the talent and the institutions, and it kept losing its young founders to Silicon Valley anyway.
There was a catch, and I put it in the piece myself. I had just taken a Google offer in the Valley.
During my four years in Boston, I grew to love the startup scene… But last summer, I landed an internship with Google in Silicon Valley, ending up with an offer of a full-time job after graduation.
